    • (Bloomberg) – Broad commodities appear richly valued near their 2008-11 highs relative to Treasury bonds, while record-setting copper risks joining 2026's pump-then-dump pattern across Bitcoin, gold, silver, platinum, palladium and iron ore. Commodities have also become increasingly subject to geopolitical pressures under President Donald Trump, with the US government selling crude oil and buying Treasury bonds as affordability remains a key issue ahead of November's election. Surging energy has been a 2026 focus, but spot prices for the sector are roughly where they were 20 years ago and remain notable for autocorrelation. Precious metals have been standout performers, but may show inklings of a peak akin to crude in 2008. Copper is atop our radar, with its correlation to the S&P 500 reaching multidecade highs while crude’s has fallen to a multidecade negative – extremes that may signal what comes next.
  • CME HRC Steel last traded at $1207 and $2 higher at 8/31/2026
